I love the beginning of a new year – it always means a fresh start. Given that it’s also the beginning of a new decade, this year is also going to be a great way to set the tone for the next 10 years.

AMEB Piano Updates

So what do we have to look forward to? Well, for those of you doing the full course exams this will be the last year you get to choose between the old syllabus and the new re-vamped 2020 syllabus. So on that note, this site will continue to feature the requirements for both syllabuses.

It also looks like the Piano for Leisure syllabus is going to be reviewed…. my personal guess is that their technical work will soon resemble something like the 2020 full course piano syllabus. This certainly has been a hit with my students so far, so here’s hoping for some nice technique exercises.

AMEB Theory Updates

In other news, it seems that the AMEB is going to be withdrawing their paper based music theory exams in August. I can’t tell you how much I am against this idea for so many reasons. Nevertheless, you can read about their attempts of modernisation (read: cost cutting) here https://www.ameb.nsw.edu.au/news/changes-for-paper-based-written-exams

The AMEB will now be (re) introducing set works for Grade 5 and 6 Theory and Musicianship. They will also be introducing new set works for Theory of Music – Licentiate Diploma (Musicology). For more information, please jump over here: https://www.ameb.nsw.edu.au/news/set-works

AMEB Exam Dates

Unfortunately the AMEB no longer sends out hardcopies of exam dates and codes so for those of you who enroll online, the dates and codes are now here: https://www.ameb.nsw.edu.au/exams/exam-dates-2020
