Mid November 2018 will see the release of AMEB Piano Series 18 – which is not just a new series of books but it marks the beginning of a whole new syllabus. That means scales, aural tests and sight reading will be re-vamped.
Fun Fact: Students who undertake this new syllabus will actually be doing similar things to what they used to do in the 1960’s as each grade will now have a specific set of scales as well as technical exercises that they may be asked to perform for the exam.
Introduction of Repertoire Exams
Based off this new re-vamped syllabus, repertoire exams allow candidates to sit the exam without technical work, general knowledge, aural tests or sight reading. It is purely a performance based exam
Introduction of Collaborative Piano Exams
These are similar to the new syllabus exams (with technical work, sight reading, aural tests and general knowledge) but the candidate will also be able to select from a list of collaborative works (ie, they can perform with another instrumentalist)
